Coal book and basket

There is a story to tell that on a remote mountain ranch in Eastern Kentucky, a man lived with his grandson. Every morning, he got up early to read. There are books he has read so many times, to the point where the book was frayed, but he was always fascinated with reading and not one morning he forgot to read.

His nephew also imitate him, also try to read every day. Then one day, he asked him:

- Grandpa, I also try to read books like him, but I do not understand anything. I have some paragraphs to understand, but when folded books are forgotten immediately. So what good is reading what he reads so often ...

The old man was pouring coal into the oven, turned to look at me and said only:

- Bring this basket of coal to the river and bring back a basket of water!

The boy did as he did, though all water had run out of the basket before he returned home.

Seeing the basket, he laughed and said:

- The water is gone! Perhaps next time you will have to go faster!

Then he told me to go back to the river to get a basket of water.

This time the boy tried to run faster, but once again, when he came home the basket was empty. Breathing out, he told him that "putting water in the basket was impossible," and then took a bucket to draw water. But he stopped:

- He did not want to take a bucket of water. He wanted to get a body of water that basket! You can do it, only thing I did not try hard!

then he tells me to get water from the river. At this point, the boy knew that the water could not be put into the basket, but he wanted to show him that no matter how fast he ran, water would flow out of the basket before he got home. So the boy took the water again, ran as fast as possible, and when he reached his place, the basket was empty again.

"See this," said the little boy, "that is useless!

"You think it's useless," said the old man, "I look at the basket!

The boy looked at the basket, and for the first time, the boy realized that the basket looked different from the original. It is no longer a basket of dirty coal, which has been rinsed with water.

- Your grandchildren, that's what happens when you read a book. Maybe he does not understand or remember everything, but when he reads, the book will change him from the inside, like the water has cleaned the other coal basket.
